Beginning Strong in Our Year: A Review

We are finally in our homeschool groove and have been for a few weeks.
I wanted to review some things we are currently completing:
(All grades complete the same Bible, Science, and History lessons)

Bible:
We are currently watching videos on youtube with mini lessons by Share Faith Kids.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HA5_oVhl9yE

Here is a video we watched today.

We also watch free Answers in Genesis videos on youtube. My son is also completing Rod and Staff Bible 6 at his own pace. This is very in depth.

English:
My kids do a combination of reading chapter books, spelling worksheets and tests, writing activities, and online typing activities with Night Zookeeper. My oldest also does BJU 6 English and my other two girls complete a Charlotte Mason style language arts program, Language Lessons for the Elementary Child by Queens Homeschool is a favorite.

History:
American History through Frank Schaffer worksheets
American History through Evan Moore worksheets
Reading classical history and a read aloud- Little House on the Prairie

We also use pbslearningmedia.org. We have been covering Native Americans, Western Expansion, The Great Depression, World War I, and we will be starting World War II. I plan on the children reading biographies and watching videos on World War II.

Apologia Zoology: Creatures of the 5th Day
I love this curriculum! It is easy for my Charlotte Mason style to read to the kids while they write down explanations and sketches into their notebooks. We will do experiments and projects as we are able, but I really like how one topic is covered in depth, before you move on to the next. All my children are completing this, but I am posting my middle daughter's work, her writing is the neatest;)

Saxon Math
We are loving Saxon Math! It is quite a lot of work, as my older kids have about 26 questions for a daily lesson, plus 100 questions of review. We don't always do this! Some days we do both, other days, we just do the review math facts (which is still 100 quick facts) or just our textbook lesson.
My second grader is doing Saxon 3, and this has been good as well. Her work is a little different, but she still has facts practice and a page or two for lessons; again we don't always do everything each day! Here is an example of my son's math facts review page for division. They are really mastering math facts through this program.

Misc.
Today we watched a vintage cartoon on Youtube called, "Song of the Birds".
I like finding appropriate, vintage cartoons for us to watch from time to time. They have great morals and the music and artistry is beautiful, at least that's my opinion!

Foreign Language/ Music/ Electives
We learn about simple Hebrew words and phrases and we are also starting out in Latin. This is just an introduction...
We copy down words from our Latin Primer. In Co-OP, my children have Spanish, so I don't cover this at home.
For free time, we do art and drawing.
Also, my kids are really starting to lean towards the piano. My middle daughter practices each day.

Building and Kinesthetic Learning/Projects
We do lots of puzzles and I am purchasing more challenging ones. The ones we have had are pretty simple. We also have legos, lincoln logs, and pattern blocks. We also paint during history note booking or art projects and complete random activities.
At some point, we will be building a bird feeder and creating 3-D log cabin and frontier display.

Reading:
My children usually have to read one chapter a day from a chapter book (all 3) in addition to their regular curriculum. For each chapter they obtain a star. After their star chart is complete, they receive a prize. I created a cheap prize bucket with party supply toys with the help of Walmart.
If they decided to write a report on their book and complete an art project once finished, they will receive a prize off of Amazon.

In addition, our CO-OP is an enrichment day with multiple subjects, projects, and activities.
We also have our children in sports or they play outside all afternoon, like Charlotte Mason advised.
We are super blessed! My children also have to complete daily cleaning chores after work is finished before playing with friends and exploring nature outdoors. This gets done pretty quick after they've been inside the earlier part of the day!
