Mid-Year Organization

Steps to staying organized and keeping on top of your homeschool year... especially with a baby coming, or an ill family member, or anything else life throws at you!

Change your school location
Homeschooling is a free way to educate. I love our homeschool classroom, but some days, we are too tired to formally sit in our desks, and just want to have our basket of school books around our living room couch and table.  Who is judging? Switch things up, this makes going to the classroom more fun when you do go to that area!

Review Homeschool Curricula
Always, mid-year, I assess what is working and what is not.  And, it's okay if something is not working.  I usually order extra, more creative style workbooks by Creative Teaching Press, Evan Moore, Frank Schaffer (Out of print, but you can buy on Amazon- my favorite!!!) etc. to fill in the gaps mid-year for subjects like specific science concepts, geography, math concepts, writing, or social studies.  These go along with our curriculum or might replace them for the rest of the year.  Amazon has all of these workbooks.

Organize workbooks in a basket system
Baskets allow your students to move around the house with their workbooks.  Re-organize baskets, and help yourself by prepping which worksheets should be completed for the next day.  I usually flip open workbooks in the basket to have them prepared, or tear them out.  I provide a clipboard and school art supply bag with needed materials.

Buy your child a planner
This way, you can write their needed assignments for the next day in the planner, having their baskets and books prepped. They will have a specific list to follow, which will help guide them.  This can also be your attendance and record keeper!
