Unity in your Marriage: Devo 1

Painting by: Arie Reinhardt Taylor

Jesus Christ is the only thing that can hold a marriage together against all odds.  He is the Almighty God who designed marriage as the very first institution- even before the modern day church in Acts. Marriage is a lifelong commitment, not just between two people, but between those two people and the Lord.  It is a three cord strand.

Years ago, as a teen, I was introduced too, "Created to be His Helpmeet" by Debi Pearl.  This book has brought me back to scripture specifically about how to be victorious as a wife and how to defeat the enemy that tries to steal, kill, and destroy what the Lord has ordained. I can't recommend this book enough for women, especially women who are interested in what God has to say through scripture and Bible study about our lives in marriage and the blessing it brings.

Quotes from the book: "God created Adam and commissioned him to take the position of leadership. (naming the animals). But the only place most men will ever rule is their own kingdom called home. At the least, every man's destiny is to be the leader of his own household; to deny this birthright is contrary to nature and God's will... Surrounding your autonomy to another (your husband and the Lord) is not for wimps. People say of an obedient woman, "Oh she is just the meek and timid type; she needs to get a life of her own." --- They know not whereof they speak. The more I show my husband reverence, the more he treasures me and treats me like his queen."

This quote greatly stood out to me.  My hsuband's natural rule and domain is over his home, always under the Lord.  Jesus gave him this right as a blessing.  I am also blessed by submitting to this blessing of reverencing and being under my husband.  My man isn't in charge of other households, he is in charge of our household.  Our household is meant to show the glory of Christ to others, to the community, to the church, to our school, and to wherever the Lord leads us.  What a wonderful privilege to be my husband's wife and helper.  Both of us are imperfect, but we both serve a perfect Savior.

Any amount of darkness has been overcome by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

A book that always tugs at my heart strings in the Bible is 1 Timothy.  The words of God are very straightforward for me as a woman and a wife, and I continue to pray to be more like this woman; knowing God has wisdom in what He speaks and ordains through His word. I highly recommend reading 1 Timothy and taking notes. It has been a blessing to me.

Until next time, be blessed in your mission field to your marriage and your family.
