Year Round Homeschool

I have never done year round homeschool. With our littles, I am extremely excited for this approach. I have always followed the school calendar, however, when our older kiddos are on break, we try to plan a vacation or some fun; they have worked so hard all year and deserve a break.

Well, one of my little munchkins turns four soon, and I am stepping up her curriculum a bit.

I am currently reviewing Bubble Phonics with her. This is what I made- it's free in my TPT store. (Store link to the right of this blog.)

We also complete Christian Light Publications VBS Bible workbooks for our Bible spine. We make the lessons hands-on, like marching figures around blocks for the walls of Jericho etc. She also circles answers to questions and real-life applications are also applied with character situations in life. These can be found on the Christian Light Publications website.

We are also doing Classical Conversations, which will be a bulk of our learning. We love this. It is a Christian, classical homeschool community all over the U.S. and in many other countries. They also have programs to dual enroll in college credits for high schoolers etc. I can't say enough about their language program, it's absolutely phenomenal. The community aspect is wonderful as well.

So, on to K4. I have thought a lot about how we will up our phonics and math work, sticking to our same Bible curriculum and weaving in CC with science, history, and geography.

I have decided on these:

Abeka K4 Manuscript Writing Pad- You start writing words in phonics.  This is the first workbook of the semester and can be found on Amazon, not to be confused with the other phonics workbook, Writing with Phonics K4, which is second semester.

We will also order the 1-12 read and color little books. This will help with reading phonetic words as well. We need to strengthen our reading and writing skills as much as possible.

On to math- we aren't yet ready for Math U See primer. She is too little. I plan to use this in Kindergarten when she is 5. I have heard wonderful things about Math U See. It's also hands on with manipulatives.

So, I have decided on making my own worksheets for her and ordering an abacus. She will trace simple addition problems and numbers. We will also use the abacus with Ray's Arithmetic Primer.

Additionally, we will order the Abeka K5 math workbook. We will do the first part of the workbook and take our time.

Anyways, this is how I am taking little steps to slowly incorporate more rigid instruction in her prek year!
